1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Restomod

This 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is a no-expense-spared restomod that combines the unmistakable look of a late second-generation Z28 with the power, drivability, braking, handling and comfort of a properly engineered modern performance car.

The build started with an exceptionally clean, true 1979 Z28 showing just 30,000 original miles. From there, more than two years were spent transforming the car into what you see today, with an estimated $125,000+ invested in the build alone, not including the cost of the donor car. Since completion, approximately 3,000 miles have been added, proving this isn’t simply a showpiece—it was built to be driven.

At the heart of the car is a forged Wegner Automotive 416ci LS3 producing 625 horsepower at the crank. Rather than chasing an unusable dyno number, the combination was designed to make serious power while remaining completely street friendly. Paired with a Tremec 6-speed manual, upgraded 3.73 rear differential, modern fuel management and Holley Dominator ECU, it delivers the performance you’d expect from a modern muscle car with the nostalgia of a classic.

Just as much attention went into making the rest of the car capable of handling the additional power. Speedtech and SPC suspension components, Koni shocks, upgraded springs, Hellwig sway bars and welded subframe connectors dramatically improve the chassis, while massive C6 Corvette 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes provide modern stopping power. Custom 18” Forgeline wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires complete the package.

The body received extensive custom work followed by a complete glass-out respray. Subtle modifications including the custom front splitter, deleted corner lights, Digi-Tails sequential LED taillights and custom 1979 Z28 graphics sharpen the original design without taking away what makes a ’79 Z28 instantly recognizable.

Inside, Riggs Brothers created a fully custom interior using TMI seating, custom door panels, matching rear seats and a custom center console. Dakota Digital instrumentation was integrated into the factory gauge locations, while Vintage Air provides ice-cold R134A air conditioning through period-correct dash controls. An Alpine/Hertz audio system sounds incredible, although with the sound of the 416 LS through Hooker long tubes and dual exhaust, you may rarely find a reason to turn it on.

Most importantly, this Camaro drives like a finished car rather than a collection of expensive parts. The PSC power steering is smooth and precise, the brakes inspire confidence, and the cooling system allows the car to sit comfortably in stop-and-go traffic without overheating. It makes more than enough power to be genuinely exciting without crossing the line into something temperamental or unpleasant to drive on the street.

With approximately 33,000 miles currently showing, only around 3,000 of those accumulated since completion of the build, this is an opportunity to own a professionally executed second-generation Z28 with an incredible amount of time, engineering and money invested into it.
